Sicilian Pizza Rolls

Nothing screams comfort food like Sicilian pizza rolls. Perfect for a family movie night, school snack or a creative twist (literally) on a good old fashioned slice of pizza, these roles are a crowd pleaser. Stuff full of gooey mozzarella and your favorite pizza toppings, serve fresh, or freeze for a later date. Very similar to making cinnamon rolls, we recommend using a cast iron skillet to brown the rolls to crispy perfection.

SICILIAN PIZZA ROLLS

SERVES 6

INGREDIENTS

▢ 1 pound pizza dough
▢ 1 Cup shredded mozzarella cheese
▢ 1/2 pound prosciutto
▢ 1/2 cup grated Pecorino Romano Cheese
▢ 1 Tablespoon Organic Oregano Flowers
▢ Handful of flour

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. On a floured surface, roll pizza dough into a large rectangle. Brush with Marinara Pasta Sauce with Oregano
  3. Sprinkle mozzarella, pecorino, prosciutto, oregano, and other favorite toppings on top of marinara and roll from the long edge of the dough to create a log, pinching regularly to seal the dough.
  4. Cut the dough log into 8 slices.
  5. Place all 8 slices into a freshly greased cast-iron pan, sprinkle with salt, dried oregano and bake for 20 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle more mozzarella onto the rolls and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Mangiamo.
